Election Results Make Clear: Partnership is a Superpower
October 28, 2026
Dear friend,
Israelis went to the polls yesterday, and today the results are trickling in. We will continue to update you as the situation becomes clearer. But regardless of the final results, we will be here, fighting for human rights for all.
One thing that is becoming unignorably clear as the results come in is the importance of partnership between Jews and Arabs. It’s true in hospitals, academia, research, education, and the election results demonstrate that it’s true in politics as well: Jewish-Arab partnership is a superpower.
Yesterday, liberal Jewish society and Arab society separately mobilized in unprecedented numbers to defeat the terrible government that has brought devastation upon both societies and continues to threaten the possibility of a sane future for them.
Until yesterday, each side perhaps hoped that the government could be defeated while maintaining the separation between societies, and that the highly-complex and charged question of partnership could continue to be postponed.
The emerging results shatter this illusion. Jewish society alone does not have the ability to fight fascist right-wing rule. Partnership is the only way forward.
Partnership is a superpower. It is x-ray vision that allows us to see beyond what we are normally able to. It is telepathy, that allows us to get into someone else’s head and think about issues from different perspectives. allows us to truly see the problems and think about them together, with all the investment that requires. It is seeing into the future and knowing there is no going back.
It is the understanding that there is no good future here that is not based on a genuine partnership between Jews and Palestinians. Even if the shared path is difficult, complex, frustrating, and slower, it is the only way forward.
There is a chance that the magnitude of this moment could lead to disaster, or another endless round of elections. But it could also lead to a transformation greater and more profound than we imagined. We must commit to the immense task of choosing and building the latter. We must commit to learn, to change, to make mistakes, and to improve. Separately, we cannot overcome the fascism that is taking hold. Together, we are an unstoppable force.
This moment is an opportunity and has the potential to connect us to a fundamental truth, one that was true even before the elections: there is no future for human rights, democracy, or a thriving society in Israel that is not based on a genuine partnership between liberal Jewish society and Arab society.
Now is the time to begin building. Together. Donate now.
