After a night of explosions in Gaza, we awoke to another horrific morning in the government's reckless war. Whenever it seems that things cannot get much worse, we discover that, in fact, they can. This government of destruction and abandonment continues to lead us from one disaster to another. Israel is committing serious crimes in Gaza, state services are collapsing, and the hostages have been abandoned to their deaths by starvation and torture. The public atmosphere is violent and full of hatred, democratic institutions are collapsing, and corruption is rampant.
And yet, in the midst of this great darkness, we refuse to give up. Now, more than ever, when human rights are most under attack, and it seems like the odds are stacked against us, is precisely the time for ACRI to fight even harder. Our mission, together with you, is to continue to remind those in power, as well as the general public, what a democratic and sane country should look like: one that strives for justice, equality, and the welfare of all of its citizens and residents. We must not learn to live with the cheapening and disregard of human life. We must not give up on human rights and democratic values. We must not make our peace with corruption and degradation.
