The right to privacy is not explicitly outlined within the international laws of occupation. However, rapid technological developments and Israel's extensive use of mass surveillance in the West Bank indicate that there is a real need to examine issue of privacy and the restrictions that an occupying power should be subject to regarding infringement of the right to privacy, especially when the occupation is long-term. A paper by the Association for Civil Rights in Israel and Breaking the Silence seeks to examine the right to privacy under occupation from a legal standpoint. The paper describes the extensive and systematic use of mass surveillance operated by security forces in the West Bank, the relevant legal systems in the area, and the resulting applicability of the right to privacy.
