Inadequate Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

After nearly three months during which Israel prevented the entry of humanitarian aid, medical equipment, and medications into the Gaza Strip, Israel permitted a small amount of food to be brought into Gaza, to be distributed through the newly-established "Gaza Aid Fund," which was created with US assistance. However, this system does not meet the needs of Gaza’s residents: it is limited in the amount of supplies it can take, its geographical coverage, and the conditions under which it can receive aid. Consequently, a significant portion of the population still left without food and essential supplies, and in order to receive aid residents must put themselves at risk. Women, children, and anyone who is sick or disabled face even more hurdles in receiving the necessary aid.
On June 8, 2025, we appealed to the Defense Minister and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, demanding that Israel allow food distribution in sufficient quantities and within a larger area under safe and accessible conditions for Gaza residents who are desperate for food. In the appeal, Attorney Reut Shaer included numerous reports from humanitarian workers, the UN, the Red Cross, and media organizations about the difficulties and failures in aid distribution, outbreaks of violence, and even injuries and deaths resulting from the dire situation around distribution centers. The appeal further asserts that the current coordination procedures and restrictions dictated by Israel prevent aid organizations from operating effectively, so only a small percentage of the required aid enters Gaza and is distributed.
In the appeal, Attorney Shaer addressed Israel's obligations under international law, writing: "Today there can be no dispute that Israel effectively controls the setup, scope, and manner of humanitarian aid distribution to Gaza residents: not only the scope of how and how much aid enters but also how it is distributed to those who need it. The clear conclusion is that Israel has obligations as an occupying power regarding these activities, and it cannot shirk its responsibility regarding the prevention of life-saving aid." ACRI is demanding that the government allow and ensure free passage of essential humanitarian aid in all parts of Gaza, in a way that is equitable and accessible for the most vulnerable residents.
