"ACRI called the detention of the former lawmakers “a new and dangerous expression of the government’s unrestrained scathing attack on Arab society in general and its leadership in particular.” The police have no authority to ban the Nazareth protest, which did not require a permit, the group stated, “and certainly not to detain the leadership of the Arab community for questioning or arrest.”"

“With grave concern and with a clear understanding of the political landscape, we recognize that the only way to stop this forcible transfer in the West Bank is a clear, strong and direct intervention by the international community,” the statement, signed by groups including Rabbis for Human Rights, Amnesty International Israel and the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, said.

With the outbreak of the war on October 7, a number of Gazan laborers staying in Israel moved to the West Bank out of concern for their safety. Some left on their own and others were assisted by Israelis. Due to the Gazan's loss of legal status in Israel, any Israeli citizen helping them get to the West Bank is breaking the law.
